WHAT BRINGS THE CURSE

 Gen 9:20  -27 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard;

And he drank of the wine, and was drunk; and he was uncovered within his tent.

And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

And he said, blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his

Here is an actual picture of the beginning of a family curse. Proverbs 26:2 says As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse Causeless shall not come. (He that is cursed without cause, the curse shall do him no harm.)

 If we see sin and various things happen in our family, that sin is always a part of the curse. Poverty can pass from generation to generation. God word says, “it did not just come on it’s own- there is a cause for it.”

Noah got drunk. Alcohol is one of the devil’s favorite tools to open the door to hideous curses. You can talk about social drinking all day long, but I tell you, alcoholism is not so much a sickness as it is a sin, and sin brings a curse.

Noah got drunk. When people get drunk they do things that they won’t normally do because their will is broken down, they are not in control. What happen to Noah was that he was uncovered in the tent. Uncovered in the Hebrew indicates there was a homosexual act.

(NIV) Habakkuk 2:15-16 "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies."

You will be filled with shame instead of glory. Now it is your turn! Drink and be exposed! The cup from the Lord’s, right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.

Somebody gets drunk in order to have some kind of sexual sin. Their will is broken down, and they fall into sinfulness. That’s what happened to Noah.

Canaan did it. I used to think, it was Ham who was cursed, the word never says that Ham was cursed- it says that Canaan (Ham’s descendant) was cursed! Ham was the one who found his father in his drunken condition, but the curse did not come on him because he did not go into his father’s tent and commit a homosexual act. It was his son Canaan, who did it; and that’s whom the curse came upon. “The curse causeless does not come,” and Canaan committed the sin.

For years people have said, “The black race is cursed because Ham was cursed, and Ham was black. That’s a lie from the devil. It is true that Ham was black – his name means hot, or dark skinned. But God did not say, “cursed be Ham.” Whose name did he say? “Cursed be Canaan”! What color was Canaan? Canaan was white. So God did not curse colors or races.

Don’t say “Well, I’m white, so I’m cursed.” No you’re not cursed because you’re white. What did God cursed? God cursed sin. If you get into sin, then you are cursed.

Canaan was cursed. Ham had four sons: Canaan, Mizraim, Phut and Cush. Phut and Cush were the black sons, and they’re the beginning of all the African tribes. Mizrain is the beginning of Egypt, and Egyptians were kind of beige-color-or olive. But Canaan was white. The Canaanites were white and all of their descendants were white.

Exodus 20:5 Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

 Now if you follow this curse down, for the Bible says that this curse is visited to the fourth generation of those that hate God. You can then see how it came on the Canaanites’ generations. When a father commits a sin, his son picks it up. There is a weakness already to sin and the old nature that comes from the father is passed on to the son. Then the devil comes and tempts the son, and he falls into it too.

 Sexual sin is the worst. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for what sin? Homosexuality. From whom did the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah descend? They descended from Canaan. Canaan was the first Homosexual, and that’s what the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were involved in.

Exodus  34:11-16  Observe thou that which I command thee this day, behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goes, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee;

But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves;

For thou shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

You can follow the Canaanites history all the way through down to Joshua’s days, they were involved in sexual sins. They were into terrible things; homosexuality, lesbianism, sex with animals, and sexual activity in front of idols. They had every kind of perverted sex going on, it is really too filthy to even mention. That’s the kind of thing that went on with the Canaanites. As those generations of sin goes on, the sin gets worse in the people. The more people sin, the better they get at it. “Practice makes perfect.”  Practicing sin makes sin terrible.

 There are curses that come down and attack a generation; they have to be broken for them not to continue. You must break the family curse. The thing that provoked the curse in Noah’s family was his own drunkenness. Noah got drunk, and that open the way for sin. People believe drinking is such a little thing. Proverbs 20:1 says. “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosever is deceived by it is not wise.”
